MS Athletics
Athletics is an important part of the Christian education program at Baltimore Lutheran School.
We would like to encourage as many students as possible to participate in team sports. In doing so,
our athletic department helps to develop a well-rounded person spiritually, mentally and physically.
We seek to build Christian character on and off the sports field. We teach our student/athletes
to be fair, courteous, humble and respectful of their fellow competitors. We train for success, develop
skills, knowledge and appreciation of the game. Though we strive to win, this will not always happen.
However we expect our athletes to give 100 percent of themselves and their ability to win. In those
instances where we do not win, our student/athletes are expected to accept defeat with grace, as we often
experience greater growth in defeat than in victory.
We want our student/athletes to respect their bodies as a gift from God (" . . . your body is a
temple of the Holy Spirit. . . " 1 Corinthians 6:19). Sports participation lays the foundation of a
healthy lifestyle through discipline and self-control. Our coaches encourage team members to make wise
decisions in how they treat their body both physically and morally. Proper diet, exercise and Christian
values are common topics discussed by our coaches.
The Christian values our students learn at Baltimore Lutheran through academics and athletics
continue outside the classroom and off the field as well. We teach a healthy respect for mind, body
and spirit, which is necessary for a balanced life. Our students and athletes understand the words of
St. Paul in his letter to Timothy (3:12) "whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it in the name
of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God through him."
